Bike Packing Basics | Part 1

Explore Adventure Lab and The San Diego Mountain Bike Association collaborate on a two part series about Bike Packing.

Spring is in the air and it's time to talk BikePacking Basics!

Part 1 of this series will cover picking a route and proper time of year for your trip. Also customizing a route from the Adventure Cycling routes, training, general research, budget, logistics, dealing with weather and more! Submit any questions in the discussion thread and we will attempt to get them answered during the presentation!

Presented by SDMBA and Andy Stout of Explore Adventure Lab.

A little about Andrew: At age 38 Andy Stout has done more than most but less than some. He is from San Diego, California, and grew up hiking and backpacking the trails here at home, and in the Sierra Nevada. In 2018 he did a solo, unsupported ride from Maine to San Diego to raise awareness for brain cancer to honor his father that passed away from Glioblastoma (brain cancer). Earlier in 2020 he biked from Eugene, Oregon, to San Diego to explore the California Coast. In July of 2020 he bikepacked from the Canadian border with Montana to the Colorado/New Mexico border on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (as far as possible on the GDMBR due to restrictions). He has traveled to over 60 countries and has guided both cycling and hiking tours overseas for five years. Over the past year he has started Explore Adventure Lab, which is a coaching and consultation company that helps individuals achieve their travel and adventure goals
